Seamless Coil Replacement Restores Comfort for Client's Trane IntelliPak System

At Velocity Mechanical, we pride ourselves on delivering fast, efficient, and expert service—especially when critical HVAC systems experience unexpected failures. Recently, we were called to assess a Trane IntelliPak rooftop unit that was no longer keeping the client's facility cool.

The Issue: Low Refrigerant and Hidden Leaks

Our experienced technician performed a thorough diagnostic evalutation and quickly identified that both refrigerant circuits were low on charge—an immediate red flag. A detailed refrigerant leak search revealed multiple leaks buried deep within the evaporator coil. While some coil leaks are accessible and repairable, these were not. The leaks were determined to be caused by poor quality copper used in the manufacturing process.

The Solution: Full Coil Replacement with Minimal Disruption

After consulting with the client, we were contracted to replace the faulty evaporator coil. This project required precise coordination and expertise, as the coil had to be safely removed from the rooftop unit and lifted down using a crane. The new coil was then hoisted up and carefully set in place.

To minimize downtime and avoid interrupting the client’s operations, our team scheduled and completed the installation over the weekend. Our technicians worked efficiently and adhered to industry best practices throughout the process.

Precision Work Done Right

During the installation, we:

  • Replaced the liquid line filter driers to ensure clean refrigerant flow.
  • Performed a high-accuracy digital pressure test to verify the system was leak-free.
  • Pulled a deep vacuum to eliminate any moisture and air from the system, ensuring long-term reliability and efficiency.

These steps can often be overlooked, but are crucial for the longevity of the system.

With the new, leak-free evaporator coil and a proper refrigerant charge, the unit is now fully operational and keeping the space cool once again.
